Before approaching Phil for help I had fallen into the trap of “exercising to eat” almost daily, training competitively for triathlon and using this endurance training as an excuse to eat whatever I wanted.  A calorie was just a calorie in my mind, and as long as I could maintain a mediocre body shape whilst eating large amounts of junk, I was surely winning.
It didn’t take long for Phil to highlight the health dangers of this worryingly common method of endurance nutrition, and almost instantly he radicalised my whole outlook on what nutrition meant, and what it could do for me.
Together we harnessed a distinct change in my focus: from exercising to eat, to fuelling for competition.
In September I represented Great Britain at the ITU World Age Group Triathlon Championships for the second time in my career in Chicago, and arrived in the shape of my life thanks to Phil’s help and advice.  I can also proudly say that I finished my season ranked 10th in the World – my highest ranking to date – and undoubtedly I can attribute much of this performance increase to the nutritional guidance that Phil has given me.
If I could get across one point, it would be that the science behind proper fuelling for sport may seem complex initially, but with a little help from trained professionals like Phil, anyone can easily begin to take control of their own nutrition, macro-nutrient balance and food sourcing in order to begin their journey to increased performance.
